The Matanuska-Susitna Borough can help!


On theWednesday's and Saturday's(with the exception of Holidays)

there is a scheduled collection of household hazardous waste at the Borough’s

Central Landfill at 1201 N. 49th State Street.

10:00 AM TO 3:00 PM

- Individuals may dispose of up to 40 pounds of hazardous waste free of charge

at these disposal events.

- Additional hazardous waste may be disposed of at a small charge.

- 55-gallon containers of used oil are only accepted at these collection events.

The following items may be disposed of at the Central Landfill and all Transfer sites

during their regular operating hours:

- 5 gallons used oil ~ free; Additional gallons are $1.00 per gallon

- 5 gallons latex paint ~ free; Additional gallons are $0.50 per gallon

- 5 car batteries ~ free; Additional batteries are $5.00 each

- In addition Central Landfill, Butte, Sutton, Willow, Big Lake, and Talkeetna Transfer Sites

will accept 1 gallon Antifreeze daily ~ free (additional gallons are $4.00 per gallon)

 

 

Conditionally Exempt Small Quantity Generators : If your business generates less than

220 pounds per month (100 kg) of hazardous waste you may arrange for the disposal

of this waste though this program.

This service is by pre-registration only.

Small quantity generators will be charged at the rate of $1.00 per pound for hazardous waste,

$1.00 per gallon for used oil, .50¢ per gallon for latex paint and $5.00 per car battery.

 

PLEASE DO NOT BRING

- Explosives, Infectious Wastes, Asbestos

- Reactives such as sodium metal or radioactive wastes

PLEASE:

- Try to keep products in their original container

- Label all containers

- Identify unlabeled or unknown material to the best of your knowledge

- Do not mix any products

- Protect from tipping over during transport

- NO LEAKING CONTAINERS

- Keep away from passengers during transport

Keeping these materials out of our landfill helps keep our

environment safe!

 

After collection, these wastes are shipped to a special disposal facility in the Lower 48.
