A new international export for Alaska is moving across the docks at Port MacKenzie and drawing the interest of global buyers from Japan and South Korea.
A ship, flagged from Singapore, has been at Port MacKenzie since last Thursday, (Nov.8) loading some 8,000 tons of scrap steel, bound for South Korea. See photos and video on link:

PacArctic lease-signing signals coming activity |

MAT-SU—“The Port is on the cusp of seeing a lot of activity,” said PacArctic President King Hufford, while signing a 20-year lease today at the Matanuska-Susitna Borough for 7.5 acres at Port MacKenzie.
“The 44-page lease agreement was a good bilateral process,” Hufford said. “The Borough is good to work with.” PacArctic is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Koniag, Inc, an Alaska Native Regional Corporation.

MAT-SU—A second new lease this month was approved for Port MacKenzie at Tuesday night's Assembly meeting. Central Alaska Energy, LLC., will lease 5.5 acres for tank farm and truck operations. The developing transportation infrastructure at Port MacKenzie is drawing the interest.
