Comprehensive Plans

This page contain information related to borough's comprehensive plans and the planning process. There are links to various sources that describe and help with the implementation of our comprehensive plans. By state law and borough code it is a requirement that the borough have an area wide plan. The Mat-Su Borough Area Wide Comprehensive Plan is available for download on this page. Plans that are being revised or new plans can be acssesed in a table located below This page also contains an alphabetical list of all the adopted borough comprehensive plans.

General Overview- Comprehensive Planning:

Planning is simply looking ahead by studying many factors influencing future development in a region and taking steps to ensure that future growth and change will create a desirable human environment. Through comprehensive planning costly mistakes can be avoided and individuals as well as governments can make better use of their resources. The basic objective of planning is to foster an environment which minimizes human hardships and expands opportunities for individual happiness and self-fulfillment.

MSB Borough Wide Comprehensive Plan:

The Borough Wide Comprehensive Plan acts as an umbrella to all other plans within the Matanuska Susitna Borough. The Borough Wide Comprehensive Plan provides general goals and recommendation about the borough as a whole. Other plans such as the public facilities plan or a community comprehensive plan fall under these general goals and recomendations but serve the purpose of explaining in greater detail issues briefly addressed in the Borough Wide Comprehensive Plan.
