Tiger III Discretionary Grant Application

The Matanuska-Susitna Borough (MSB) faces a challenge which is unique to Alaska.  Currently there is only one road between rural MSB and the Municipality of Anchorage (MOA), Alaska's most populated area.  Drivers traveling between the MSB and MOA are restricted to a single thoroushfare known as the Glann Highway.  This lone transportation artery becomes heavily congested at peak travel hours, and, seasonally, winter road conditions can bring traffic to a standstill.

The MSB, working with the office of Navel Research, has secured a revolutionary ferry, the M/V Susitna, that will be the flagship of the newly created Cook Inlet Ferry System, the remaining piece of this vital system is the landing at Port MacKenzie.

The Borough is submitting an application for funding under the United States Department of Transportation's (DOT) Tiger Discretionary Grant Program for construction of the Ferry Landing at Port MacKenzie.
